Support Your Horse’s Joints on Hard Ground

Although this Summer’s weather has been pretty hit and miss, it seems many people across the country are battling hard ground, which can unfortunately play havoc on your horse’s joints.

Hard ground can increase the amount of concussion your horse experiences which can have disastrous impacts on their joints and ultimately their soundness.

Here are some signs your horse may not be thriving on the hard ground:

  • Joint inflammation and swelling
  • Shorter stride length
  • Lack of forwardness
  • Reluctance to roll / struggling to get up after rolling
  • Lameness

Support Their Joints With PharmaQuin

PharmaQuin contains 4 key ingredients proven to support senior joint health – Glucosamine, MSM, Chondroitin & Hyaluronic Acid. These support joint comfort and mobility in all horses, but are particularly beneficial for horses when the ground gets firm. Learn about the key ingredients in PharmaQuin here.

What Else Can You Do?

It’s important to consider changing how we exercise our horses when the ground is hard. It’s key to spend a sufficient time warming up and cooling down your horse, as well as monitoring the ground conditions both at home and when competing. Consider alternating your horse’s workload – for example could you hire a local gallops to do interval training, or use a water treadmill? It is also important to ensure your horse’s feet are in optimal condition to ensure a good hoof balance and prevent further joint problems up the leg.

To maintain good health it’s important to make sure you are feeding a quality and balanced diet, monitoring their fitness and workload, caring for their feet and feeding a joint supplement.
