My pony suffers from Laminitis – can I use this product?

Yes, our no sugar formula is ideal, but always check with your vet if you have any concerns

My horse has history of ulcers, can I still feed them this electrolyte?

Yes, our no sugar formula is ideal, but always check with your vet if you have any concerns

Do I need to feed even in winter?

While it’s incredibly important to feed an Electrolyte during the warmer weather, most horses in a level of work where they sweat (even in Winter) would benefit from using an Electrolyte to support their recovery and wellbeing.

How should I feed an Electrolyte?

One of the main reasons we suggest feeding an electrolyte year round is to prevent any sudden changes to the horse’s diet when they require additional support to replace lost electrolytes and prevent dehydration when they have sweated excessively. It is important not just to feed a horse an electrolyte when they are at a competition or away from home as they may be suspicious of the change to their feed when already fussy due to a change in their environment so you are best to introduce it to them well in advance of a competition to ensure maximum benefit. As with all new supplements, this product should be introduced gradually over a period of days increasing the serving size.

Can I feed too much?

Yes – although this would be extremely difficult given an active horses daily requirements. We would recommend our daily serving suggestions.

Will my horse drink more water if I feed an electrolyte?

Due to high levels of Sodium and Chloride in Electrolytes, you may notice some horses drink more.

Why can’t I just use salt?

As a cheap alternative you can but if you are after a fully balanced solution containing potassium, magnesium, calcium & beneficial Seagreens® your horse will benefit from ElectroLYTE+

What are common signs of electrolyte imbalance?

You might notice a drop off in athletic performance, dark urine, poor recovery post exercise, cramping, licking soil, and in extreme cases you may encounter sunken eyes & digestive issues.

My horse has free access to a salt lick, is this not enough?

A horse lick is a great way to cover the basics but salt licks are not a fully balanced solution and it is impossible to know how much has been consumed per day.

My horse drinks plenty, can they still get dehydrated?

Yes! A horse loses roughly 10g of electrolytes per litre of sweat lost with over 3g of this as sodium. Over an hour this equates to five litres – or 50g of electrolytes!

I hear a lot of electrolytes are just full of sugar, is this true of yours?

No, our formula is sugar free making it an ideal choice for those owners who wish to monitor their horse’s sugar intake.

How do I feed it at a competition?

Clean, fresh water should always be available when using ElectroLYTE+. For best results, ElectroLYTE+ can be added to a dampened feed both before and after exercise, with feeding rate increasing with intense workloads, or any time a horse as excessively sweated (such as at competition). We would recommend increasing the daily serving to 50g/day for the duration of a competition and a few days after.
